Three tulips, still closed, in lavender and dusty rose. Around them the small things: a lilac daisy, a pale rosette, two sprays of forget-me-nots in lilac and deep violet with yellow centres, a couple of white daisies and one pink bud, with long dark leaves holding it all together.
Tulips that never open are a good metaphor and an even better gift. It reads soft rather than romantic, so it works for a friend as easily as for an anniversary, and the colours sit well in a room that already has a lot going on.
